Judith Papo

This week Ivy Slater, host of Her Success Story, chats with her guest, Judith Papo. The two talk about the evolution of Legal Shred, the importance of relationships in business, and the core values that have created a foundation of teamwork and synergy to center each day’s success.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • How the Legal Shred concept began, and became a solution for businesses
  • How Judith’s journey was shaped by relationships and education
  • What drew her and her husband to start their shredding company
  • The evolution of Legal Shred, and the market research and relationships that set them on the right path
  • The core values that Legal Shred lives by, and the importance in creating a foundation of teamwork and synergy to center each day’s success
  • What surprises Judith has found along the way
  • The obstacles that became assets, and the “so-called competitors” that became allies

Judith's experiences, first as a high school English teacher and then as a CPA, give her a rare combination of an individual who both enjoys communicating and analyzing numbers.  She, with her family, launched HV Shred in 2008 when her husband, Jeff began looking around at the possibility of outsourcing shredding at Tuminaro Pharmacy, of which he is co-owner.  Seeing a need in the community for shredding and recycling resources, as well as an increased need for education regarding identity theft and protecting client information, Judith, Jeff, and her father in law, Fran, built HV Shred from the ground up.

When Fran retired in 2013, Judith and HV Shred moved into a new chapter with partner Jason Fredricks expanding into the Metro area with the dba Legal Shred as well as expanding into medical waste with sister company MedxWaste. 2022 marks the 15th anniversary for Legal Shred now with a fleet of 12 trucks and service throughout NY, NJ, CT, and parts of Massachusetts.

Judith continues to be a stalwart supporter of community and especially fellow small business owners.  She is a Rotarian and life-long resident of the Hudson Valley.
